No doubt the first thing you’ll be doing upon launching Monster Hunter Rise is tinkering with the display and graphical settings. On top of that, the game offers new, high definition textures, 4K resolution, ultra-wide support, and uncapped frame rates. In terms of what PC players can expect from Monster Hunter Rise, it includes all the trappings of its original release on Nintendo Switch along with all the post-launch content that was released up until November 2021. Rise not only nails the classic elements but also adds to the experience with its inclusion of the Wirebug, a tool that enhances your mobility by allowing you to quickly zip-line around. The game manages to encapsulate that sense of preparing for a hunt and tracking a monstrous beast that made the franchise such a hit. Shacknews’ Senior News Editor TJ Denzer has already done a fantastic job at explaining why Monster Hunter Rise is “beyond anything” he expected. Hunt preparationīefore we get into the extra bits and pieces PC players receive, this overview is less a critique on Monster Hunter Rise as a game, and more of an insight into what you can expect when you load it up on your computer. Rise is yet another feather in Capcom’s hat and solidifies the series’ spot on PC. I’m pleased to report that the game takes the excellent experience offered on the Switch and sprinkles on all the texture upgrades and options PC players have come to expect. Ahead of its release, I had the opportunity to dive into Monster Hunter Rise on PC and see how it compared to my playtime with the Switch version back in March 2021. Enter Monster Hunter Rise, a game that was a Nintendo Switch exclusive, but is now making its way to a personal computer near you. After the wild success of Monster Hunter World on PC, it should come as no surprise that Capcom is releasing another main entry Monster Hunter title on the platform.

The first Deadlock Model C prototypes will be offered for sale at Blade Show this weekend. We made a very conscious decision to go forward as a high-end manufacturer, and we’ve been very happy with our decision.” And as far as production collaborations or the like go, Hawk says there won’t be any. The Deadlock Model C will be Hawk Knives’s main focus going forward. Once the basic workflow is established, the Hawks will work on variations with different inlays and blade steel – things that never happened with the Model B, due to the time intensive construction process. “It’s still early to know how that will actually work in reality, but I suspect we will be able to put out a lot of these,” Hawk tells us. These changes should let the Hawks do something with the Deadlock that they’ve wanted since the beginning: produce it on a larger scale. I literally look at Model C and think, Wow I designed that!” “I’m sure I’m a little biased but I really like the way the aesthetics of the Model C turned out. So the major components can be screwed down and held solid.” Hawk also notes that the Model C is the best the Deadlock has ever looked. It also means that we have one main component that all other parts fasten to. “On the Model C we are using a two-part construction which makes for a more rigid handle, and easier to machine parts. “In the Model B we used a three-piece construction that included two overlays and a frame that were sandwiched together,” says Hawk. The new frame also reduces the overall part count. And that if we could just go to a smooth blade channel things would improve, and they definitely did.” “I knew that a lot of our issues we were having in assembly were the result of a rough blade channel. “It’s amazing how much better the knife works from the standpoint of repeatable lockup,” Hawk tells us. This made the rails’ surfaces both durable, and very smooth. This was a constant issue in assembly.”Īn aluminum frame meant that the Hawks were able to implement a type III hard anodization. “This was a very time-consuming process that made the surface hard, but not very smooth. To counteract the galling, Model A and B Deadlocks had their interior blade channel rails carbidized to prevent wear over time. Which is why a lot of knife makers put steel inserts into their frame locks, or carbidize the lock face,” Hawk explains. Previous Deadlock models had frames made from titanium, but the Model C is made from aluminum instead. The new Deadlock Model C is made from aluminum, not titanium. Especially when it’s pushed as an either/or choice that often results in students ending up bewildered somewhere in the middle (my own experience). A few VR experiences won’t overcome that conceptual chasm. That helped enforce a sense of separation she’d like to overcome. McNitt points out that at her high school, the Art and Drama departments were on one end of a large building while the sciences were on the far side. Bridging the chasm between science and art We like that concept of “failing upward” – something to keep in mind if you are creating a VR project or shooting 360° Video. That’s certainly the experience we had with creating virtual reality film there was a lot of failing upwards in order to get there. I think I connect to science as if it’s an artistic process, and the process of discovery in science is the same experience you have when you’re making a film, because it’s all about failing upwards and having that lead to these new discoveries. WEISS: You’ve said before that you think “science is storytelling.” In a conversation with Interview after her initial VR project, “A Fistful of Stars” (which places you up near the Hubble Telescope), Haley Weiss asked McNitt about the relationship between science and storytelling. It’s a stroke of genius to have Patti Smith’s soft yet gravelly voice narrate “Pale Blue Dot.” And to bring in Millie Bobby Brown as the voice in “Chorus of the Cosmos.” Science and Storytelling A scene from “SPHERES” Songs from SpaceTime.” She also has a special talent in bringing people together from diverse disciplines including science and music. McNitt has a number of shorts and documentary films in her credits but has become a storyteller of our cosmos with the SPHERES VR experience. The film director Darren Aronofsky (he did “ Requiem for a Dream” and “ Mother!“) was the executive producer, and the VR experience was written and directed by Eliza McNitt. Spheres’ other chapters are Chorus of the Cosmos, narrated (well, really whispered) by Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things, and Pale Blue Dot, narrated (you guessed it: whispered) by punk-rock icon and best-selling author Patti Smith. If you don’t regularly spend your time pondering the mysteries of the universe, prepare to come out of your headset wondering what the heck you just saw. One chapter, titled “Spheres: Songs of Spacetime,” has actress Jessica Chastain narrating (actually, whispering) your trip inside a black hole. The experience takes viewers on atmospheric tours around the cosmos. The series is a three-part experience covering black holes, the sounds of the cosmos, and our own pale-blue-dot of a planet. Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. Sometimes those stories are based on hard evidence other times, on our imagination. But it’s also significant as the kind of experience that could get younger students interested in STEM and related fields.Įvery discipline incorporates stories – in this case, compelling stories of the mysteries of the universe. SPHERES is a powerful example of storytelling in VR, and one of our favorite experiences. We got the answer today with its public release on the Oculus Rift HMD for $9.99. That distribution agreement had us all guessing when and where it would show up. The SPHERES VR experience made news in the spring when it scored the million-dollar-plus deal at the Sundance Film Festival. So in this example the output of grep is passed to the next command sed as its argument. This is a little command-line utility that takes what receives in input and passes it as argument to another program. l - print results as a simple list of file names.R - perform a recursive search, also across symbolic links. Here I'm invoking it with the following parameters: Grep is a utility for searching for strings through multiple text files. Let me now dissect it and take a quick look at the different tools in use. Assuming that you want to search for the string search through multiple files and replace it with replace, this is the one-liner: grep -RiIl 'search' | xargs sed -i 's/search/replace/g' After a bit of research I've come up with a nice solution. Often times I need to search and replace a string of text across multiple files in my Linux box. He gives a vivid description of his childhood in his autobiography.įorm the substance of.
